DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

My most recent documentary photography project was showing the food bank distribution chain in Brighton. They have multiple food hubs and food banks due to having the second largest homeless population in England. I felt this was a really important issue to illustrate how much more they were needed during lockdown.

The food bank distribution chain: Non-perishable food is donated by the public at a range of places, such as schools, churches, and supermarket collection points.

Supermarket chains donate a lot of food that is surplus, for a variety of reasons such as labelling errors and incorrect forecasting.

Farms and gardens also donate their fresh produce to distribution centres, such as Fareshare and local food banks.

Fareshare sort through the food which then gets shared between smaller food banks.

The food banks and food hubs then deliver the food

parcels to people who need it the most.
